Healthier, Quicker And Just As Tasty As The Real Thing!
My favorite food in the world is pizza! If a crispy pizza was healthy and didn’t cause me to put on 3 pounds every time I ate it, then I would eat one every day! Today we will chat about how to make tortilla pizza, which is a quick crispy pizza alternative that is healthy-ish, ready in under 10 minutes and much cheaper than a takeout pizza.
You are probably thinking, getting take out pizza isn’t that expensive! But in reality, most restaurants layer in healthy profit margins to keep their business profitable. We all want convenience, we pay big for convenience, and businesses capitalise on convenience. This, in a nutshell, is how the Western world operates. Don’t get me wrong, maybe once a fortnight or month, we will go out as a family or get some food delivered. It supports local business and I get to soak up that extra bit of convenience. But most of the time, nothing beats a home-cooked meal even if you only have 10 minutes to get something on the dinner table.

“Tortilla Pizza – One Of My Kids Favorites And They Do Most Of The Work”
One of the reasons why I love this recipe so much is that it is kid-friendly in the preparation space. I put out the ingredients, they do all the work, and then I put it in the oven for 5 minutes. The kids are excited they get the ‘power’ to choose what they put on their pizza and I feel they enjoy spending the time as a family to create something. So, most Friday nights are for light and crispy tortilla pizza – one of my kid’s favorites and they do most of the work!
How To Make Tortilla Pizza | Let’s Get Cooking!
This isn’t much of a recipe, it is essentially just putting a bunch of ingredients together and putting it in the oven. You can put whatever toppings you like on them, but I will provide ideas on what pizzas you can dish up in your house. The ingredients below will make 5 to 6 pizzas, using a pack of 5 or 6 tortillas, wraps or flatbread of your choosing. There are loads of different tortilla varieties these days for the health-conscious that can be used for a super easy low carb keto pizza, gluten-free pizza, or low-calorie pizza. We use the low carb wraps from Aldi to make our pizzas, but just go with whatever suits your family’s needs 🙂
Kitchen Utensils
- Flat oven trays/pizza tray
- Pizza cutter (if you have one, a large knife will do fine)
- Baking paper
- Small bowl and spoon
- Chopping board and knife
Ingredients – Base
- 5 tortilla wraps (I like to use the low carb wholewheat ones. About 12grams of carbs per wrap)
- 2 tbs Tomato Paste
- 2 tbs Barbeque Sauce
- 1 tsp Crushed Garlic (from a jar)
- 1 tsp Dried Italian Herbs
Ingredients – Toppings (whatever you want)
- 2 tbs Olive Oil
- 1 ½ Cups of Shredded Cheese (I just use standard tasty cheese, but you can use mozzarella or a pizza blend variety)
- ½ Cup Diced Bacon
- ½ A Red Onion
- ¼ Red Capsicum
- ½ Cup Chopped Spinach leaves
- I normally have some leftover chicken, ham or beef in the fridge so will just put that on too
- ½ Can of Diced Pineapple (pineapple on pizza…a bit controversial lol)

Method
Step 1
Preheat your oven and trays to 425℉ (220℃) and layout 5 bits of baking paper on your bench that are slightly larger than your tortilla wraps. This is so we can easily transfer these on and off the oven tray.
Step 2
Place your wraps on the baking paper, and in a small bowl mix together the tomato paste, barbeque sauce, garlic and dried Italian Herbs. Let your kids spread the sauce on all the wraps.
Step 3
While your kids do the sauce, put out all your topping ingredients on the bench. Layer on all the toppings and be pretty light on the heavier ingredients (meat), the wraps are quite thin and we don’t want them to be soggy or break.
Step 4
Put them on the preheated trays in the oven for 5 or until the cheese has melted and the sides of the wraps are brown and crispy. The preheated trays help the base crisp up so there are no soggy bits. Slice up and serve!

Recipe Tips
Suggested Dishes To Pair With
- I also like to make a garlic pizza with this which is even easier. 1 tsp of garlic, a sprinkle of dried Italian herbs and a glug of olive oil on the base. Sprinkle with cheese and it is ready to go in the oven.
- Pizza and salad always make a nice pairing, so using the excess ingredients you used for your toppings (onion, spinach, capsicum, chicken, etc) you can whip up an easy salad. For an easy dressing try olive oil, vinegar (balsamic, red or white wine – whatever you have in your pantry), a little garlic, dried Italian herbs, salt and pepper.
