How To Quickly Make Taco Beef Without A Packet | Let’s Get Cooking!

Prep time: 5 minutes | Cooking time: 15 minutes | Difficulty level: 1/5.

I like to cook a bit extra so hubby and I can have it for lunch for the next 2 days with plain rice and veggies. Now, I know it looks like many ingredients, but trust me, all you need to do is measure it out and throw it in the pan.

My kids aren’t great with spice so the below ingredients will make a mild Taco Beef. If you want a bit more punch, then just experiment with a bit more chilli or cayenne pepper.

Ingredients

  • 3.3 pounds (1.5kg) Beef Mince – I use 4 star beef which is roughly 10% fat
  • 2 ½ tbs Garlic Powder
  • 2tbs Tomato Paste
  • 2 ½ tbs Smoked Paprika Powder
  • 1tbs Onion Powder
  • 1 tbs Dried Oregano
  • 1 tbs Cumin Powder
  • ½ tbs Dried Chilli Flakes
  • ½ tbs Dried Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 tbs Pepper
  • 1.5 tbs Salt
  • 1.5 tbs Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbs Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion Chopped
  • 2 Cups Spinach (optional)
  • 1 Capsicum (optional)

Kitchen Utensils

  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Frypan
  • Wooden spoon

Method

Step 1

Chop up your onion and if you choose to add it, your spinach and capsicum. I know my kids will eat tacos no matter what, so I use this as an opportunity to add some more veggies into the mix.

Step 2

Measure out all your dried herbs and spices and put it in a bowl to the side.

Step 3

On medium to high heat, fry off the onion in the olive oil and add the beef mince. Break up the mince with the wooden spoon so there are no chunky bits. Add in the capsicum at this point if you are adding it in.

Step 4

Once the beef has browned off, add all the dried herbs and spices along with the tomato paste. Mix in well until all the beef mix is a consistent orange/red color. Pour in half a cup of water and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
